Nice and raspy calls, I especially liked his cackle, which is a good one when all else fails…The diaphragm calls are the best for most calling, since you can sit without making a move. I can make all the calls he makes, but I still can’t make a good gobble with one.
I bought a box call from a fellow who was making them, at a local turkey exposition, back in the early 80′s, I think, and the old fellow who was making them even looked like an old turkey gobbler….and he sure made the best box calls I had ever heard, He taught me the use of the slate and box calls he made, and before I left I ordered one from him, which at that time was a whopping $30-35…(a lot to spend at the time)…but just lately, I have seen his calls just like the one I got from him, sell for $1800. or more! Now, I can’t take it with me any more, because it’s worth too much to take afield….The maker’s name was Neil Cost…
