Hunting Camp 2009: Arrival And Getting Ready
November 9, 2009
Hopes were high upon arrival at Hunting Camp! By mid-week, those hopes faded to frustration along with disgust. Where are all the deer? I’ll cover that more later.
As usual we saw pretty much the full spectrum of weather during the week there – sunshine, cold, rain, snow, wind and warmth. According to the thermometer hanging behind camp on a tree, the coldest I saw was 21 degrees and the warmest came yesterday when the mercury topped out around 62.
The snow, even though it came down most all of one day and into the night, only amounted to not more than a dusting. However, the next morning we were up and pounding the woods hoping to cut a trail of the monster buck. The three hours approximate that we had to “track” deer before it melted, resulted in no deer tracks found. One member of our group had a fun encounter with three bull moose. I have pictures and a video which I’ll post up as soon as I’ve done the editing, etc.
Below are a couple of pictures, among several, I took while at camp. The first is the hunting camp. This was actually taken on the last day of camp but it still greets us each year when we arrive.
The second photo is of two hunters working hard to ready their gear for opening morning, soon to arrive after a brief stay in bed.
