Making Snow And Grooming It - Milt’s Corner
December 16, 2008
Man made snow is flying in the air at Mt. Abram Ski Slopes in Maine. This is one type of snow gun being used at the bottom of a ski run. Bigger cannons are used higher up the mountain and then they are moved around. When the snow is piled high enough, a big grooming machine drags and pushes the snow into depressions and packs it down to make a nice smooth trail to ski on. The snow gun makes snow from high pressure air and water and with low enough temperature to freeze the atomized water. Its a really cold job and you have to have plenty of smarts and common sense to make it all work night and day. Happy Skiing! Milt
