Why Is A Rifle A “Hunting” Rifle?

Posted by Tom Remington on May 12, 2008

This will seem silly to some but I think it’s a legitimate question. I was just reading a short headline from out of Canada this morning stating that a man holds ex-wife hostage with a hunting rifle. There are really no more details than that but my question, which I’ve asked on numerous occasions, is why was it a hunting rifle? Why not just a rifle? Why not a gun? Why not a target rifle?

I guess it could have just as easily been called an assault rifle. After all, the media loves using assault weapon. I would suppose that by definition anything used to assault someone or something has to be declared an assault weapon, although most of us know what is meant when assault weapon is used to describe a gun used in committing a crime.

Now it could very well be that this guy uses that rifle only for hunting and nothing else and so therefore, the media is correct in calling it a hunting rifle. Whether it is intentional or not, does calling every rifle a hunting rifle become as damaging to the sport as calling every gun an assault weapon?

Why hunting rifle? If a man pulled out a jack knife and committed a crime, the press doesn’t refer to that knife as a Boy Scout knife. When someone is beaten to death with a baseball bat, the press doesn’t describe it as one just like Mickey Mantle used to use, or a golf club as like the one Tiger Woods uses.

Is it just an easy thing to say? To refer to it as a hunting rifle? Or is there really more to it?

The marxist freedom haters are “assaulting” or “targeting” our right to own them, and hunt with them and they are “hunting” a method to get the populance at large to agree to outlaw them which is their primary target thru subliminal campaigns using their controlled media outlets. Hunting is a nasty word, so stick it on the other nasty word rifle. Oh those evil guns, only commies should have them for world genocide operations and street sweeping safety of the “homeland” by brute forces in control of the weak unarmed populance. King George tried to steal the assault rifle of the day once to, it was a Flintlock. Once only genocidal maniacs have the guns we then can feel safe and fuzzy all over with our gun hater friends, then when the Empire points its guns of depopulation at us we can turn to the gun haters and ask them feel better now folks…..To bad so sad but now that reality has opened those eyes of yours its time to close them forever…..see ya round.

Yep, I read that article ( the original one ) a couple days ago. Bloomberg is something else, and so is his city attorney’s.

While I try to avoid conspiracy theory - type comments, it’s hard to avoid once you’ve watched the mainstream media for a while.

While shooters like myself are used to refuting the media’s BS, you hunters are in their sights, also. They’ll use whatever handle they can in order to get folks worked up over guns.

Don’t be surprised when they call your deer rifle a “scoped sniper rifle”. They’re already going after the .338 Lapua.

I came across this read several days ago. I’ve been spreading the word every chance I get ever since. It’s likely many of you already subscribe to this way of speaking the cause, but for me I was glad to find the correct terminology for any future conversations in defense of my rights.

There is no such thing as ” Conspiracy theory ” Only business as usual by criminals in the corporate government. I googled the phrase “guilty of conspiracy” it pulled up 10,000 hits, which is the max number of results which Westlaw can give at one time. In other words there were over 10,000 cases using the phrase ” guilty of conspiracy.” I found 222,000 cases where a defendant was found guilty by lawsuit of conspiracy, also under the term ” guilty of conspiracy ” I got 24,700 results, as well as 7,590 results for the convictions of conspiracy. So you see conspiracies are committed all the time in the U.S. and many of the conspirators are caught and found guilty in our American Courts, Indeed Conspiracy is a well recognized crime in American Law. To think government officials have not been involved and gotten away with the crime of conspiracy is utterly foolish and going around painting researchers, Constitutionalists and investigative journalists with the idiotic catch phrase of your a ” Conspiracy Theorist” only helps the crime to go un-punished. I would return fire saying oh, your a Reality Phobe.

That is a nice link George thank you, I like it, Here let me return the favor http://www.pushhamburger.com/jan_07.html

Im a shooter to, and a hunter. Those of you who will vote McCain BEWARE, I do not trust him to protect the 2nd Amendment, my guns or me, there is a strong possiblity Mike DeWine will become McCains Attorney General if McCain is selected. DeWine is a darling of the gun grabbers with their Brady Campaign to prevent gun violence endorsement.

When DeWine ran for the Senate in 1994, he backed the Clinton Gun Bans, ( Source The Buckeye Firearms Association).

In 2006, Human Events Online named Dewine among the top 10 anti-gun U.S. Senators. And shortly before his defeat DeWine took a position on opposition to legislation which barred gun Manufacturers, distributers, dealers or importers from frivolous lawsuits designed to put them out of business.

We got us three Stooges Folks, I really dont want to vote for any of them. Besides Voting is acceptance of the 14th Amendment corporate u.s. empire…..We are actually two Countries, I prefer the old version prior to 1868. Read Borks expose that may help you see what Im talking about. http://www.pushhamburger.com/jan_07.htm

Gun control is a firm grip. Oh by the way I have collected over 100 years of Congressional Globes, Annals and Records of Congress. Kindergardeners believe the non-sense of “Conspiracy Theory” bunk spread by the media and criminals in government. What a beautiful way to get honest folks to look the other way. Meanwhile hiding their crimes in plane site, which is the best place to hide things, right out in the open.

    A good point.

Why don’t we call them Target rifles. Everything we shoot at is our target of choice at the time of the shot.
