A Picture Is Worth Many Questions!!!!
March 27, 2008
This is great. The photo below was taken by my good friend Gary Inman. Yes, he is the son of chief photographer Milt Inman. I spoke with Gary on the phone the other day and filed a request. I said, “Gary, send me a picture from your assortment of unusual photos that would get readers asking some questions.” So here it is.

I’m thinkin an old vegatable size sortor, or a front off a bevy of different sized birdhouses!! It looks like the left side of the holes, (maybe the bottoms?) is worn from use….
I’ll bet whoever took the photo doesn’t even know, right?
I have an idea he does know but ain’t telling!
Tom,
That’s an easy one! Instead of their outhouse being a mere “single-holer”, the more luxurious “double-holer”, or the highly questionable “two-story, two-holer”; this particular builder offered something for the entire family.
Pity they got indoor plumbing - the pleasant family chats on the ‘loo are over. (sigh)
I detect there might some privy history here. I think the most I was ever able to participate in was a three-holer and if memory serves me correctly, it was a two-story.
I’d cry “Shotgun”, for the top floor of that double story nightmare!
I’ll say it’s the front “door” on a row of animal houses to give the little ones a shot at someplace dry to lay down.
If you turn it long wise with the holes down you can see where they have worn off the paint with their feet going in and out.
I agree with Jack. How could anyone shit n’sit on that, anyways?
I’m guessing a pumpkin or gourd sorter…. sold by size.
P
ar - I certainly have sat and shat on worse things than a rough hole!
Big and small woodpeckers…hole peckers for sure…
“ar - I certainly have sat and shat on worse things than a rough hole!” What the hell?!
[...] that I hadn’t revealed the previous “Whatzit” picture. That picture is below and this link will take you back to the original post so you can read all the comments about [...]
For everyone who participated in guessing what that “thing” was leaned up against the side of the barn, I have the explanation along with the original picture posted at the link below.

Thanks to Jes, he reminded me that I had yet to explain this one before I posted another.
Well geesh..I sent my answer into you Tom through your email addy and never got a response:-( . This picture is from an old family outhouse(I’m too young to remember using this on our farm,LOL)
Wanda, I’m sorry about the lack of response. I never received it in my inbox. It may have been caught up in the SPAM filter. Isn’t that the excuse for everything?
