Sierra Club Opposes Arizona Right To Hunt
March 10, 2008
Not much of a shocker there I’d say. The problem is the information the Sierra Club is presenting to the public about HCR2037, which is a proposed amendment to the Arizona Constitution that would give citizens of that state a guaranteed right to hunt. The Sierra Club is saying that a passage of this bill would remove control of wildlife management from the fish and game and put it in the hands of the legislature. But that’s not true.
HCR2037 says: (the emboldening is mine)
House Concurrent Resolution 2037 amends the Arizona Constitution to ensure the right of Arizona citizens to hunt, fish, and harvest game animals pursuant to existing regulations and restrictions.
It also spells out the authority of the Game and Fish Department and the Game and Fish Commission. Perhaps the Sierra Club is taking out of context the part of the bill that says under “provisions”,
States that the right of Arizona citizens to hunt, fish, and harvest game animals in a manner consistent with the laws of trespass shall not be impaired, except as reasonably restricted or regulated by the Legislature.
I believe this is in reference to laws that influence access to hunting lands and in no way states or implies that the management of fish and wildlife in Arizona would be put in the laps of the legislature.

Note that the Arizona Game and Fish Commission also opposes this measure.

I think it is well-intentioned, but unnecessary. Hunting is a privilege; gun ownership is a right. What of other peoples’ pastimes/hobbies/traditions? Shall they be declared rights as well? I’m still mulling this over, and trying to find out who pushed for this legislation. My comments as written are my initial take on the matter.

List of states that have Right to Hunt and Fish protections.
Some one must think it necessary for such protections. I’m not worried about my grandson being able to play Baseball, but I was concerned that he might no be able to enjoy outdoor activities such as hunting or fishing.
Seems like a vocal minority with money and political connections do not want animals hurt in anyway. Hunting or Fishing to their way of thinking is immoral and wrong. This minority is pushing it’s will on the majority and the majorities response is to pass legislation to solidify in writing a protection against the minority.
In other words Most people would like to CHOOSE if they would like to hunt and fish. Not told that they can’t
HCR 2037, sponsored by State Representative Jerry Weiers (R-12), would protect the right to hunt and fish in Arizona through a constitutional amendment. HCR2037 will be considered tomorrow, March 5 at 9:00 am.
This would be who the majority approached about protection from the minority. It did pass the house in a 6-3 vote. Now it’s up to the people of Arizona to decide.
I know who sponsored it. I don’t know the driving force behind it. I spoke with several people this past weekend that are board members in Arizona Sportsmen for Wildlife (our biggest political lobby here in AZ), the ADA (Az Deer Association), the ABA (Arizona Bowhunters Association) and the AES (Arizona Elk Society) and no one could shed much light on it. I doubt that legislator just bolted up in bed one night and said “Darn it, I’m going to create a bill to entrench hunting in the state constitution!”. Usually, there is a group behind such legislation. I’m not saying there is anything nefarious going on – I’m saying that I will be able to form a more complete opinion when I know who is behind it, as well as the intent. I live in Arizona, and have not yet refused to support legislation that was truly beneficial for hunters.

Desert Rat this is the best I can come up with. Looks like your state government along with the NRA are behind this. Much like old Bill “fair and balanced” is behind the push for Megan’s law
I saw that but I am still mystified as to why The Game and Fish Department is against it, and none of the conservation groups have much knowledge about it. Things are just… “odd” here.
I posted the press release from Game and Fish on my blog:

Last chance, might try asking these idiots. I posted this before you might have missed it??? or not.
Strike that idiot remark. Well funded politically adept Pin Head is more accurate. Also a Vocal Minority.
What’s “odd” is most of us are happy to just let things alone,Why ask why?, there fine the way they are. Go ahead and give it up to complacency.
I live in a state where my right to hunt and fish is now protected by the state constitution. I’ve yet to see all these so called abuses materialize.
Here in Idaho a “Right to Hunt” amendment was on its way to the committee and was pulled, minutes before the session was to begin. The only reason I’ve been given is that the Idaho Fish and Game Dep. was very upset and wants the wording changed, before going to a vote. There were many influential sponsors in the House and the Senate that sponsored this bill, and it was pulled with no warning. There are alot of “pissed off” legislators right now.
Paul – Why is it that nothing you have said surprises me coming from Idaho and guess who’s behind it? Fish and Game
“What’s “odd†is most of us are happy to just let things alone,Why ask why?”
Your right. I’ll just take that attitude for all issues now. Not sure why you’re so fired up about something that doesn’t affect you directly. Not sure why you’re attacking me about something I’m not opoosed to. I am simply stating that I am not sure at this point in time, if I support it. I am involved in a lot of sportsmen’s issues here in Arizona, and have done a lot to support the conservation groups here. To imply that I am “complacent” is ill informed at best. I am done with this conversation. Tom, I do appreciate your coverage of it.
Pay no attention to George. He has been trolling the comments section for sometime now.
George where do you live and can you put up the exact wording that’s in that amendment?

Paul, Here’s the link to HB1512.

Paul,Just another on HB1512
Desert Rat, Excuse me if my passions run higher than others. I am a staunch supporter of the 2nd and our rights to hunt and fish. I get a bit peeved at nothing more than a direct assault(using any lawful means) against any state government that waffles on either issue. Especially if the majority of that states population call themselves hunters.
Paul, The house bill changed from HB1512 to HB142.
This is taking quite a bit of trolling to locate. It’s sitting with the Fish and Game as PN168.
I’m not sure I have found exactly the wording I’m looking for I’ll keep you posted.
Thanks George. Desert Rat, our Fish and Game here in Idaho is not doing its job, described by Idaho law. Its job is to protect, preserve and perpetuate wild game and fish for continued supplies for hunting, fishing and trapping by Idaho citizens. This job is not being done and hasn’t been for many years. The DOW, TNC and the biodiversity mindset is completely ingrained in Our Fish and Game. Out of a $77,000,000 budget last year, only a couple of million was used for game! There were nature trails, bird watching sites, and interpretive centers built and much more, that millions of dollars were misappropriated on. This is illegal, by Idaho state law and still it is being done. There is not a checks and balance system that holds the Fish and Game to do what we pay them to do. A “Right to Hunt” amendment, would make the Fish and Game more accountable to the people who pay their bloated salaries. If the non-hunting public wants non-game programs, they should have to pay for them themselves, not the hunting public who has always been on a “user pays” system.
Thanks Paul D

Paul, Above link is a pdf for the minutes of the july 07 PA fish and game.
Read page 6 thru 12 statement made by Representative Levdansky. He speaks for PA but the message is worthwhile for us all, on both sides to consider (In my opinion).
I am to carry HCR 5037 to the floor of the Kansas House of representatives on thursday 27th, (tomorrow). This is to support a change to the Kansas Constitution to designate the right to hunt and fish and trap.
I have been collecting many great comments. NRA is behind the proposal, Our Wildlife and Parks are cautious to opposition. Thanks Rep. john C. Grange
Mr. Grange – Terrific and we wish you the best of luck. Please let us know how it turns out and I will check in on the proceedings to see how it is going.
Thanks for letting us all know.
The SIERRA CLUB are a bunch of idiots and i want absolutly nothing to do with them we need to drill in the ANWR and offshore and tell CARL POPE and the SIERRA CLUB to GO TAKE A HIKE i mean only a iidot would have anything to do with them
The Sierra Club is one of the bigger conservation groups. Years back I was a member until the anti-hunting crowd took over what was a pretty good outfit.
Now that the knee jerk feel good ohh and aww are in charge pretty much any scientific conservation on wildlife is gone.
I’m thinking that land and habitat conservation is the only activity they are involved in that might get me to even look there way. But that is only a long shot. There are much better organizations that hold my values to support that do just as good or even better a job. Using scientific evidence to support there actions. Not just because it feels good. Some things they do are OK but not enough to cover up there true agenda.
I don’t endorse or support this but have a look ALLOT OF PEOPLE DO:
San Francisco, CA, February 8th, 2008 — Salt Lake City, UT–The Outdoor Industry Association announced on January 23 that the Sierra Club is the winner of their 2008 Ambassador Award. The Ambassador Award recognizes a company that has made significant and ongoing achievements toward the growth of participation in outdoor activities. Sierra Club Youth Services programs are promoted in every issue of SIERRA magazine, the national publication of the Sierra Club.
“The Sierra Club is thrilled to accept this award on behalf of our 1.3 million members and supporters,” said Conservation Director Bruce Hamilton. “It’s critical to show the next generation the joys of the great outdoors. Young people today have fewer opportunities to get outside and explore; spending time outdoors improves kids’ test scores and helps fight childhood obesity. A new venture for Sierra Club we’re very proud of is Operation Purple Camp where we provided $1.2 million in support of summer camps for the children of armed service veterans serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Sierra club wants all land accese cut off entirly they supposrt the radical WILDLANDS project and therefore i want absolutly nothing to do with ether the SIERRA CLUB of CARL POPE their crooked leader
This is a function/part of the United Nations Earth Charter. The Earth Summit held in Rio de Janeiro in 1992, began drafting the Earth Charter, also known as Agenda 21 of the U.N. The Earth Charter objectives are fully in line with the goals and ideals enshrined in the constitution of UNESCO, did you get that ? NOT THE AMERICAN CONSTITUTION, but the United Nations World constitution. That is who dosen’t want you hunting or owning guns in this Nation any longer. These goals are being implemented across America subversively.
DAVID ROCKEFELLER was the connection and influence to the earth charter and MAURICE STRONG of CANADA. In 1972 Strong was Secretary General of the first Earth Summit in Stockholm. This led to the creation of the UNITED NATIONS ENVIRONMENTAL PROGRAM (UNEP) in 1972. Strong was UNEP’s first Exec. Director. At the same time Strong served as the Director of the International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN).
The IUCN was accredited by the U.N. in 1946 to become its “Scientific Advisor” and was made up of various government scientists. Within the IUCN, the EPA, USFWS, ( Who adminsters the ESA-UN-US Controlled Endangered Species Act, Nat. Park Service, US FOREST SERVICE, NATIONAL OCEAN and Atmospher Adm. Huddle behind closed doors with the SIERRA CLUB, National AUDUBON, National Wildlife Federation, Nature Conservancy, Natural Resources Council, Environ. Defense Fund, etc. to plan and implement this global agenda and the new global ethics from above and below. The IUCN wrote the CONVENTION ON BIODIVERSITY and created the pantheistic pseudoscience called “conservation biology” to “prove” earth’s ecosystems were being mortally wounded by human use.
The IUCN also founded the World Wildlife Fund for nature (WWF) and the WORLD RESOURCES INSTITUTE (WRI) which pass the banner back and forth in developing and promoting treaties and agreements…
Now these Foreign Powers and your POLITICIANS have made agreements with out your CONSENT to implement this nonsense. Thus you will eventually lose your hunting, AND THE GUNS YOU HUNT WITH, if you don’t get off your arses and start to do What I do, EXPOSE THE SCOUNDRELS.
I did not vote for this UN shit, DID YOU ?
Sierra Club are a bunch of idiots and CARL POPE is ajerk all this about bears i mean their view of bears must have come from that stupid french film THE BEAR i mean male bears will kill the cubs no adopt them like in that dumb movie and let see the kind of reaction these igorant flatlander will get when they step between a she bear and her cubs. I heard of a incedent a few years ago outside YELLOWSTONE PARK some antihunting acivists who was protesting against a buffalo hunt was mualed by a she bear when he got too close to the bears cubs and it later turned out he was adeadbeat dad. And SCREW BIODIVERSITY ITS REDICULOUS
