Human Value Over Animal Value Or The Other Way Around?

Where do you line up on this issue? Do you consider yourself a species below that of other animals, equal to or are you top of the food chain? Once you answer that question, answer this one.
I have been reading and hearing about places in the southeastern United States where they are running out of water. An example of that is the city of Atlanta. Last week one report said that the city of a few million, had about a 90-day supply of water left. Today, I learned that the reason for that, other than just lack of rain, is that officials will not allow water to flow in certain places in order to protect certain species that are protected under the Endangered Species Act.
My question is to what extent do we protect endangered species? Will we put the health and well being of humans at risk in order that we save an endangered species? Think about it and respond below if you would like.

It’s not just that they’re restricting where water can flow. They’re also releasing a specific amount of flow in order to protect fresh water mussels, I believe, in Florida. My view on this is that if they keep the flows going at the current rates, it won’t be long until there is no flow and then the shell critters will die anyway.

They’ve always held water back in North Georgia. I can remember southern parts of the Chattahoochee River about bone dry but lakes in the northern part of the state over-run with water.
Very interesting issue, Tom. I’m not sure I have a take on this just yet…but thanks for raising my awareness. I’ll definitely look into it.
