Montana Bow Hunter Charged By Bear
Posted by Tom Remington on September 9, 2007
A Montana bow hunter who came upon another bear feeding on the dead carcass of a grizzly bear must have been startled by the hunter and charged him. The unidentified hunter drew his pistol and shot the bear wounding it. Authorities tracked the blood trail for about 4 miles and could not locate the wounded bear. Neither the hunter or officials could determine if the attacking bear was a black or another grizzly.
Officials warned anyone that would be in the area of the South Fork of Canyon Creek in the North Fork Flathead drainage, there may be a wounded bear roaming about. If you’ve never encountered a wounded bear, trust me when I say they can be ugly.
Authorities are also taking a closer look at the dead grizzly carcass claiming there may be evidence the bear was illegally killed. Anyone who might have any information are being asked to call 406-752-5501 or 1-800-TIP-MONT.
