    Hi,

I couldn’t be more disgusted then I have been with the article comparing dogfighting criminals to hunters and fisherman. I grew up in a hunting and fishing family. My brothers do it all the time. Yes, I am a vegetarian, and yes, there are more “Bambi killer” jokes when we get together at my folks house each year than you could shake a fishing pole at. My brothers argue, “If you really love animals, then you don’t want them to overpopulate and starve to death.”
I spayed and neutered all my pets, they point out. To them, hunting is similar to that.

But my brothers never tortured an animal. They never beat them, drowned them, fed them glass and gun powder to make them mean, raped them, electrocuted them, hung them alive, or any of the other tortures I keep reading about with dogfighting. My brothers shot them for food… quickly. They didn’t want them to suffer.

As a card carrying member of PETA and the HSUS, and Chair and Founder of Animal Chaplains.com, I love animals and will do anything to protect them. However, I will not equate hunting and fishing with the vicious psychopathology of dogfighting. I just won’t do it. Intent is everything, and the many hunters I grew up with loved animals as much as I did. They still do. All my brothers have dogs and cats and other animals and spoil them rotten.

I cannot speak on behalf of all Animal Chaplains, only myself. I hope they will step forward and speak for themselves, too.

    Yours in friendship,
    Animal Chaplain Nancy

Nancy - Thank you for sharing. It is always refreshing to hear from someone who may not necessarily agree with hunting and fishing but understands it and shows respect. It should go both ways.
