What Illegal Immigration And Drug Smuggling Is Doing To The Southwest’s Wildlife
August 23, 2006
Back in April I brought you a story about some of the effects the illegals from Mexico were having on wild game habitat in the southwest and what one group was doing to help in cleaning up the tons of trash being left behind by the illegals.
Today Tom Kenworthy has a story complete with photographs of what is happening in Arizona, especially in the wildlife refuges. The added manpower being used for security and the expenses of cleaning up abandoned vehicles and destruction to the property, is robbing time and money that should be spent on managing wildlife.
Kenworthy doesn’t go so far as to offer remedies, he does seem to paint a fairly accurate picture I think.

Being a native of Arizona (51 years), I am sickened by the damage done to our eco-system brought about from the flood of illegal immigrants. They enter our country illegally, smuggle drugs and other illegal immigrants and trash our pristine deserts, many of which are wilderness areas and State parks.
I could ramble further and bash political lines here, but rather than do so, I’ll just say the “legislature folks” need to pull their proverbial heads out and draft legislation that adequately addresses the illegal immigration issue – without amnesty. The future of Arizona and our nation hinge upon it.
