Does Your First Amendment Rights Trump My Second Amenment Rights?

August 15, 2006

Good question and I would guess, no I know some people think so. John Longenecker from Men’s News Daily has written a column which is a response to an editorial written by Jenny Price a free lance writer and research scholar at the UCLA Center for the Study of Women, in the LA Times.

What I would suggest you do is go to the LA Times editorial first. You can link from Longenecker’s piece or just click here. Then come back and read Longenecker’s column. I would have to agree that his column is probably one of the best works of explaining equal rights.

Ms. Price pitches the same anti-gun sentiment as do others, only she justifies her spin by the death of her brother. I own and carry and handgun. I have my CCW Permit which allows (under state laws) to do so. I don’t care if she likes it. I may have to defend her life some day when someone tries to put a gun to her head while in a conveinent store buying herself a Cappucino. What will she think of me and my handgun then?

None of us can help that criminals find a way to obtain a handgun.

In her make pretend world, does Ms. Price think murder will cease in today’s society if all guns were banned? She must, or else why would she defend this?

Archaeologists have proven that early man was guilty of slaughtering other mankind. Human remains have been excavated that inarguably display severe cranial injury from blunt force trauma. If Ms. Price were neolithic, would she have wanted to ban stone axes and battering clubs too? I think yes, she would.

Anti-gun folks just don’t get the most important truth to the equation. People kill people through a host of choices: automobiles, knives, bats, etc. Are we going to ban baseball and driving cars, just because someone killed a person with a bat or a Toyote sedan? Get real Ms. Price.

Ms. Price’s ideals are akin to thinking… “it’s the spoon that made Jenny fat”.

    But I ramble…

Got something to say?
