12 More Cases of CWD in South Dakota
April 11, 2006
Officials tested 3,245 deer and elk for chronic wasting disease over the last 9 months and have confirmed 12 cases – 4 mule deer, 4 elk and 4 white tail deer. These cases were found in areas where diseased animals have been found before.
Since the South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks began a testing program in 1997, 12,000 deer and elk have been tested. 32 deer have been found with CWD and 13 elk.
